Mothy News From Andrew Colvin http://orangeorb.net/blog/2008/06/20/62/ http://orangeorb.net/blog/2008/06/20/62/#comments Fri, 20 Jun 2008 03:13:51 +0000 Regan Lee http://orangeorb.net/blog/2008/06/20/62/ Here’s the latest Mothman newsletter from Andrew Colvin (author of Mothman’s Photographer) As always, thanks to Andrew for allowing me to repost his news . . .

Mothramanics:

I will be a guest tomorrow, Wed., on the new and improved “live call-
in” version of Beyond the Grassy Knoll, which is starting to soar
with heavy hitting guests from the superspectrum. I have no idea what
we are going to talk about, which should make it interesting. Starts
at noon PST…

Below is a photo of some “Mothman” leaf masks by a guy I am writing a
book with, the amazing Bruce Bickford, who once did claymation for
Frank Zappa.

Rewards,

Andy

Russian Mothman http://orangeorb.net/blog/2008/06/16/russian-mothman/ http://orangeorb.net/blog/2008/06/16/russian-mothman/#comments Mon, 16 Jun 2008 02:20:51 +0000 Regan Lee http://orangeorb.net/blog/2008/06/16/russian-mothman/ I remember reading in an issue of FATE magazine many years ago something about a Russian Mothman. Andrew Colvin and other Mothman researchers have commented that Mothman has been seen in other countries. And, Mothman encounters have been reported in other places in the U.S. other than Point Pleasant, West Virginia.

If the above is true — that Mothman is global and not restricted to a specific region, like West Virginia — then the theory that Mothman is a government psy ops creation doesn’t hold up. It’s possible the government, in a dark rogue shadow mind control kind of way, has something to do with it; but responsible for Mothman? Probably not likely.

I came across this article on Pravda about Russian groups who study Mothman: Mothman phenomenon: I want to believe

Yes, it was on Pravda, so keep that in mind!

In John A. Keel’s Mothman Prophecies, he writes about a Russian encounter in 1908. (The year of the Tunguska event.) Writer V.K. Arsenyev found a man’s footprint while hiking. He had his dog, Alpha, with him, when he encountered an “unknown animal.”

I head the beating of wings. Something large and dark emerged from the fog and flew over the river. A moment later it disappeared into the dense mist. My dog, badly frightened, pressed itself to my feet.”

Arsenyev told his story to the people in the area, who:

“broke into a vividd story about a man who could fly in the air. Hunters often saw his tracks, tracks that appeared suddenly and vanished suddenly, in such a way that they could only be possible if the “man” alighted on the ground, then took off again into the air. (The Mothman Prophecies, John A. Keel, p28)

There are many more stories of winged human like beings from all over the world. Maybe it’s a mistake to think of Mothman as just a singular entity that is personnel to West Virginia.

Mothman on Lulu http://orangeorb.net/blog/2008/06/06/mothman-on-lulu/ http://orangeorb.net/blog/2008/06/06/mothman-on-lulu/#comments Fri, 06 Jun 2008 21:41:42 +0000 Regan Lee http://orangeorb.net/blog/2008/06/06/mothman-on-lulu/ I found a few things on Mothman over at Lulu.com, on-line publishing site. (Where I’ll be offering some items soon, though not on Mothman.) I found this: The Mothman Legacy by Andrew Norman.

From the blurb on LuLu:

An audio diary of Andrew Norman’s experiences at the 2005 Mothman Festival in Point Pleasant, West Virginia. Includes detailed summaries of the guest speakers and a creepy hayride around the TNT area where the Mothman was seen. Roam through downtown Point Pleasant with the author as he visits the Mothman and River Museums. An eerie electronic score by Paul Bishop adds an extra dimension to the 36-minute-long narration.

Lesley, blogging queen (Debris Field, Beyond the Dial, Machine Elf, and so many more) recently received her copy of Andrew Colvin’s Mothman Photographer II. Maybe Lesley will write something as a guest blogger here about her responses to the book.

Speaking of Andrews, are we to be concerned about the synchronicty of two Andrews pontificating on Mothman? :)

(Hey, those things happen, I found George Van Tassel’s book for a quarter and sold it on eBay for a very nice sum years ago.) You can see a few scans of Barker’s book on MothmanLives.com.
(There’s an image of a different cover of the book on my blog Vintage U.F.O.)

Jet Packs and Winged Humanoids http://orangeorb.net/blog/2008/05/15/jet-packs-and-winged-humanoids/ http://orangeorb.net/blog/2008/05/15/jet-packs-and-winged-humanoids/#comments Thu, 15 May 2008 05:21:03 +0000 Regan Lee http://orangeorb.net/blog/2008/05/15/jet-packs-and-winged-humanoids/ Flying Female Humanoids
Thinking about Mothman and winged beings with human like forms had me going off in a few directions: birdmen, etc. I remembered the story of the winged, flying female that flew over soldiers in Viet Nam during the war, and did a search. I found this very interesting post on the Boy in the Machine blog: Those Damn Flying Humanoids, complete with a great image.

The article references many cases of flying humanoids, going back to the 1800s.

This sighting is particularly intriguing to me:

“Bird People” Early 1950’s Brazil: A couple report seeing what they thought at first were two large “birds”. After the “birds” landed nearby, the couple were able to ascertain that they were actually people with wings, both a male and a female. After realizing they were not alone, the bird-people attempted to conceal themselves. When this failed to work, the two simply flew away.

As you’ll find when you read the article, these kinds of sightings have occurred all over the world.

JET PACKS
Someone left a comment on the blog about “jet packs” as a possible explanation for these sightings. I remember, back in the 1970s, an encounter with a jet pack flying man. We were hanging out in Bronson Park/Caves (Los Angeles, California) and came upon a film crew; they were filming a commercial. Here we were, minding our own business, hiking around, and suddenly there’s a very intense angry man scrabbling through the brush, yelling at us to “get out and keep quiet,” etc. After all, can’t we see they’re filming a TV commercial? We hung around awhile and watched through the bushes while the actor tried to get more than a few inches off the ground in this jet pack thing. It wasn’t very exciting; we got bored and left after a short time.

Birdmen http://orangeorb.net/blog/2008/05/13/birdmen/ http://orangeorb.net/blog/2008/05/13/birdmen/#comments Tue, 13 May 2008 00:10:10 +0000 Regan Lee http://orangeorb.net/blog/2008/05/13/birdmen/ Cryptomundo has some items on Birdmen lore and stories.

Can Mothman be a “birdman?” He/it is humanoid, with wings.

Mothman isn’t the only one of its kind; birdmen, or winged figures, have been around for centuries. As Andrew Colvin discusses quite a bit in his books on Mothman; the Garuda, for example. Neither has Mothman been reserved just for West Virginia; winged humanoids have been seen in Washington state, across the country, all over.

MIBS, Mothman and Mom http://orangeorb.net/blog/2008/05/12/mibs-mothman-and-mom/ http://orangeorb.net/blog/2008/05/12/mibs-mothman-and-mom/#comments Mon, 12 May 2008 00:37:54 +0000 Regan Lee http://orangeorb.net/blog/2008/05/12/mibs-mothman-and-mom/ I’m very tired, having driven out to the coast 100 miles, and back again today to visit with mom. But i want to get some thoughts down while it’s still fresh.

So mom and I are talking, and she mentions she recently watched a program on TV about UFOs which she found “interesting.” We got to talking about the triangles, which she hadn’t heard of, so I told her what I knew, including my own triangle sighting in Oregon years ago. The conversation about the UFOs in Mexico and the triangles had mom wondering about air space; “it seems dangerous for us (or anyone) to fly in someone else’s airspace.” Then she told me for that reason, among others, she didn’t think the triangles were “ours,” but probably alien. Go, mom!

A bit later I mentioned Mothman, not sure how it came up, and she said “Who, what?!” She had never heard of Mothman! So of course I told her all about that. Which she found fascinating. And I mentioned MIBS — “Men in black?” mom asked; I said “Yep” — and she asked if they were aliens. I said I didn’t know, but that’s certainly one theory.

“What do the Men in black do?” she asks. I told her about the outdated clothing, cars, the odd behavior, etc. and something strange began to happen. The more I started to casually describe MIBS, I began to have that “they’re listening” feeling. That “they’re here….!” feeling, that I’ve had (along with others, who confirmed the presence of non-human intelligences) at times when discussing UFOs. It was very odd. And when I got to the part where I said:

And an eerie aspect of MIBS is, for example, you go outside at night with the dogs, say, and you’re looking up at the night sky, and you see a UFO. And you decide you’re not going to tell anyone about it, you keep the sighting to yourself. You haven’t told anyone, you go off to bed. The next day or soon after, a MIB or two arrive at your door, asking you about your UFO sighting.

I got the weirdest, yet familiar, sensation in my solar plexus, that same kind of feeling I’ve had before with “them” (whoever the hell “they” are) — a combination of a warning and a confirmation “they” are tuned in. Tuned in and listening with great interest.

(I didn’t mention that to mom; enough is enough after all.)

So I promised mom I’d e-mail her some Mothman links, and I’ll send her a book or two as well. Let’s hope it doesn’t scare her, although I doubt it, she’s very tough in many ways, and an avid reader. She did tell me that the only book she read that really scared her, living by herself at the time, was Stephen King’s Tommyknockers, which surprised me, because that’s the one book of King’s that really made me uncomfortable as well. Hmmm….

Mothman: A Synchronicity Trigger? http://orangeorb.net/blog/2008/05/10/mothman-a-synchronicity-trigger/ http://orangeorb.net/blog/2008/05/10/mothman-a-synchronicity-trigger/#comments Sat, 10 May 2008 02:18:14 +0000 Regan Lee http://orangeorb.net/blog/2008/05/10/mothman-a-synchronicity-trigger/ One characteristic of Mothman seems to be about synchronicities. Doe Mothman trigger synchronicities; is Mothman a catalyst for synchronisitic experiences? It appears so, in my short time with things Mothman I’ve experienced many synchronicities. Andrew Colvin discusses this a lot in his book The Mothman’s Photographer II. And synchronicty of course is a given in paranormal/Fortean phenomena. (including UFOs; which I always include in the former categories.)
