I started a new blog (I know, don’t say anything) : Animal Forteana. I just had a moment of synchronicity regarding moths; you can read it on my new blog here.

TNT Bunker Explodes

Posted in Uncategorized by Regan Lee on the May 25th, 2010

Updated report from WSAZ on the May 17th explosion of a bunker in the TNT area:

POINT PLEASANT, W.Va. (WSAZ) — A powerful explosion rocked the night sky over Mason County early Monday morning — powerful because it was fueled by ammunition.

We’re talking about an underground bunker at what’s commonly known as the old TNT site near Point Pleasant.

That area is famous for another reason — it’s where the legendary Mothman was supposedly spotted. But, while the circumstances surrounding this event are still puzzling, investigators are confident they’ll solve this mystery sooner rather than later.

“It was so bright it turned night into day,” Adam Frazier said. “I didn’t hear an explosion, but I saw the light.”

He said he shot a light about a mile away from his home around 1 a.m. Monday.

“I shot it with my cell phone because I knew no one would believe me,” Frazier said.

An underground storage bunker was the source of the blast. Empty barrels and metal storage boxes were thrown everywhere, some landing as far as 100 feet away in a nearby swamp.

“The steel doors were thrown off, and the ceiling is made of 6-inch concrete that lifted up and then caved in,” Gary Sharp with the Division of Natural Resources said. “The blast was pretty extensive.”

Mothman-Type Bird on Happy Town

Posted in Uncategorized by Regan Lee on the May 14th, 2010

I’ve been watching the new ABC series Happy Town. It’s not a good show, but it isn’t terrible either. Trying to be sort of Twin Peaks, which of course it can never be, a bit like Parhump, which was great and so sorry to see that one go! Sam Neill is enjoyable, . . . and I’m a nerd, I’ll watch any kind of show that has to do with the weird.

Last night’s episode had a Mothman like moment; a large bird, following characters around, seemingly the cause of a car accident, and hanging around the town’s annual carnival. Of course there’s a carnival! High up in a tree, the strange bird watches the crowd below. People disappear; strange things afoot.. the bird glides off, looking much like a Thunderbird and making an unearthly, unbirdlike cry. The bird gets a few people’s attention, and is considered a bad omen by some, a sign of things to come for others.

The show didn’t make any references to Mothman but it just reminded me of Mothman in some ways.

Blog look

Posted in Uncategorized by Regan Lee on the January 20th, 2010

I liked the previous template better as to colors, but the layout drove me crazy. I’m not savvy enough to play around with it and get it to look the way I want, so I had to use their pre-fab choices. I like this one okay; much neater, but it’s on the stuffy side a bit. Oh well. As readers of this blog may have realized by now, the look might change, it might not!

Latest From Andy Colvin: Interviews, and more

Posted in Uncategorized by Regan Lee on the November 17th, 2009

Latest news from what Andy Colvin is up to, including podcasts with Vyz — always great listening!

Due to some skillful prodding by Vyz, I have done three new interviews on Think or Be Eaten, which delve into my October return trip to the Indian mounds of Ohio. These are some of the more wide-ranging of the shows we have done. The first show (#47) looks at, among other things, my own family history and how it seems to tie directly into the Egyptians via the Pharaoic Montauk “Indians” on Long Island (whom the Colvins married into in the 1700s). In the second hour, we go into Masonic symbolisms – how they evolved from the Moors/Egyptians, and how they undergird the history of America and Europe (apparently 30 of our presidents were related to the Montauks). Go here and scroll down:

In the third show (#48), which turns out to be Vyz’s all-time longest interview, we go further into the evolving 11:11 mystery which, in addition to tying into key symbolisms of ancient Egypt, now includes that synchronistic Mothman sighting in early October, only a week before I left for Ohio. Again, this sighting was only a mile or two away from the 1111 Independence Ave. address I was visiting.

If you don’t have time to listen to the entire two-hour show, make sure you skip to the end so you can hear our new song, “Flying High With the Mothman.” The song, which is somewhat tongue-in-cheek, tells the story of Indrid Cold and Apol, the famous MIBs of the Mothman story. Special thanks to guitarist Neal Mindrum for his help on this song, which was recorded in one take into a laptop – during a freezing wind – at the largest Indian mound in Ohio (at Miamisburg).

I’ve also got a recent blog on the subject, although it isn’t nearly as detailed as the interviews:
