Lots of news to let you all in on concerning Mothman stuff, festival, museum etc.

Thanks to all of the new people who have signed on to the Mothman email list. The numbers are growing at a record pace and we appreciate your interest and taking the time to visit the sites.

The 7th annual Mothman Festival is now less than a week away and as usual I am besieged with all sorts of fun things that have to be ready for festival time. We now have all the info you need on www.mothmafestival.com so please visit the site for all info and updates. Keep in mind that things can always change at the blink of an eye. If you do have any questions or concerns that are not covered on the site just email me and I will try to get the info to you.

The Mothman Museum has had a phenomenal summer season with visitors coming from all corners of the globe. Remember that we will be open during the festival weekend on Friday and Saturday from 11am till 11pm….we will be open on festival Sunday from 11am till 5pm.

The festival guest speaker list is filled to the max with all sorts of authors, researchers and investigators. They all welcome your questions and interest during the Q&A sessions after their presentations…..some have been here before and are strong supporters of the festival…some are new to the festival and we are appreciative that they are sharing their work and investigative findings with us.

Just heard from folks at A&E’s Paranormal State about a “field trip” they are planning in December. Cast and some crew will be meeting up with fans of the show to get a close up and personal look at the Mothman phenomenon. We will post details and how to get your tickets on www.mothmanlives.com as soon as we confirm the event details.

The TNT hayrides at the WV farm Museum will be happening on Friday at 8pm in addition to the regular Saturday schedule. We have tried to pull this off in past festivals but this year it’s a go. There will not be time slot scheduling on Friday so it is first come, first serve. As always adults ride for $5.00 and kids under 10 ride for $3.00.

I had a chance to speak this past Friday and Saturday in St. Albans WV at the Flatwoods Monster UFO extravaganza put on by Larry Bailey. The stage effects and soundstage were unreal and the event was very enjoyable. Please make note to try and attend this next year (usually in September) Flatwoods Monster author and investigator Frank Feschino Jr. was also in attendance along with UFO expert Stanton Freidman.

I will try and email at least one more email update this week prior to the Mothman Festival. Weather is looking good for us. For those of you who are planning on attending….have a safe and fun trip…email me with any questions….it is a hectic week so please be patient as far as a reply…..Jeff Wamsley

Well, Which Is It? “Silly” or “Goofy?”

Posted in Uncategorized by Regan Lee on the September 15th, 2008

So the Trickster decides to poke fun at me and give me a little kick in the ass saying “Hey, don’t get so full of yourself my friend,” — along comes a college student, an art major who hopes to teach some day, according to her blog — and posts a few links, Mothman Flutterings included, that are “silly.” She also calls them “goofy.” She didn’t get the title right, just calling it mothman, but whatever. Not clear if being silly and goofy is a good thing, (which it often is) or not. Hey, at least I’m interesting! :)

Giant Red Eyed Moth!

Click here for a neat but creepy (to me) image of a giant red eyed moth. The photographer comments he took the photo while in Mexico. This is from the Coast to Coast site.

Skeptibunkie review of Mothman

Posted in Media, Mothman Warnings, birds by Regan Lee on the September 13th, 2008

PinkRaygun.com is a great name for a blog, but the blog is a skeptoid blog, so of course I can’t like it. Brian Thompson, a skeptoid who runs his own blog “amateur scientist” wrote a piece on Mothman for PinkRaygun.

Thompson starts off by reviewing the film Mothman Prophecies. He professes to be confused about Richard Gere’s character and Mothman, apparently he was expecting Gere to fly around in a giant moth suit. I suppose Thompson can’t be blamed too much for thinking along these lines, since he writes he wasn’t familiar with Mothman before the film.

Being a skeptoid, he naturally makes all kinds of sarcastic assumptions about the witnesses; this after doing “research” into the mOthman story. He also comes to the expected conclusions: mass hysteria, Mothman “ended” in the nineteen sixties, and of course, the skeptibunkie talking point that Mothman was just a silly old barn owl. The owl theory is, of course, the favorite skeptibunkie theory of all time to explain away Fortean events. Mothman was an owl, the Flatwoods “Monster” was an owl, the Kentucky, Hopkinsville entities were owls. (For more on the owl theory nonsense, visit my blog Snarly Skepticism.)

Turkey Vultures, and a Bit of Bigfoot in the Dream State

Posted in Animals, birds, dreams by Regan Lee on the September 1st, 2008

About birds, and weird dream states. . .
turkey_vulture.jpg

A couple of weeks ago I wrote about the high number of animal sightings on our way to and from the coast. One of the animal sightings was of turkey vultures, which, while not at all unusual, isn’t something we’ve really seen. I’ve seen hawks and even owls in the daytime, sometimes quail or wild turkeys, etc. but not just a bunch of turkey vultures hanging out on the road.

Yesterday, driving back from the coast, we saw two turkey vultures in the road. One was standing off to the side of the road, the other . . . it was really kind an eerie sight. The turkey vulture was standing on a wide fence post, its wings spread out. It just stayed there like that, wings spread out. Didn’t move, didn’t take off, didn’t flap its wings around, just stood there, with wings out. Very odd.

That night, I had a very unusual (though I’ve had it happen several times throughlout my life) dream. The dream state was a combination of being lucid, dreaming, awake-but-not-asleep, and astral projecting. It started out kind of neat, really, I was in a car/plane kind of thing. Imagine a small car without tires that could fly; like a VW bug. I was just zooming over large rocks on the coast, through narrow passeways, just beautiful but a bit scary. I was going so fast and I was the only passenger but didn’t have any control. I was thinking, as I (“we”? — for I felt as if someone else was with me driving this thing) that these scenes would make beautiful paintings.

The we open up a little, get to the beach; rocky and wild, lots of tidepools. And I see Bigfoot! Bigfoot is walking very fast, very fast and agile for a large being, easily climbing over the wet rocks and walking through the sand. Its in profile to me; and the car/plane I’m in gets in closer, and I’m surprised to find that this Bigfoot is mad. Its angry and negative and downright mad that I’m there! I wake up scared to death, lol. But even when I was awake, I was still kind of “dreaming” I could still see these images. I was so damn scared, I really wanted to get up and go talk to my husband, who was still up, he was in the living room. But I felt too stupid; here I am, in my fifties, and too damn scared from a dream. So I just dealt with it and went back to sleep.

This just all felt like a “Mothman Fluttering” kind of moment.
