Mothman Lives.com and The Silver Bridge

The out of print and hard to find — and expensive, once you do find it, book goes for upwards of $400.00 — The Silver Bridge by Gray Barker is a book I’d love to find at a yard sale. (Hey, those things happen, I found George Van Tassel’s book for a quarter and sold it on eBay for a very nice sum years ago.) You can see a few scans of Barker’s book on MothmanLives.com.
(There’s an image of a different cover of the book on my blog Vintage U.F.O.)

Jet Packs and Winged Humanoids

Flying Female Humanoids
Thinking about Mothman and winged beings with human like forms had me going off in a few directions: birdmen, etc. I remembered the story of the winged, flying female that flew over soldiers in Viet Nam during the war, and did a search. I found this very interesting post on the Boy in the Machine blog: Those Damn Flying Humanoids, complete with a great image.

The article references many cases of flying humanoids, going back to the 1800s.

This sighting is particularly intriguing to me:

“Bird People” Early 1950’s Brazil: A couple report seeing what they thought at first were two large “birds”. After the “birds” landed nearby, the couple were able to ascertain that they were actually people with wings, both a male and a female. After realizing they were not alone, the bird-people attempted to conceal themselves. When this failed to work, the two simply flew away.

As you’ll find when you read the article, these kinds of sightings have occurred all over the world.

JET PACKS
Someone left a comment on the blog about “jet packs” as a possible explanation for these sightings. I remember, back in the 1970s, an encounter with a jet pack flying man. We were hanging out in Bronson Park/Caves (Los Angeles, California) and came upon a film crew; they were filming a commercial. Here we were, minding our own business, hiking around, and suddenly there’s a very intense angry man scrabbling through the brush, yelling at us to “get out and keep quiet,” etc. After all, can’t we see they’re filming a TV commercial? We hung around awhile and watched through the bushes while the actor tried to get more than a few inches off the ground in this jet pack thing. It wasn’t very exciting; we got bored and left after a short time.

Birdmen

Cryptomundo has some items on Birdmen lore and stories.

Can Mothman be a “birdman?” He/it is humanoid, with wings.

Mothman isn’t the only one of its kind; birdmen, or winged figures, have been around for centuries. As Andrew Colvin discusses quite a bit in his books on Mothman; the Garuda, for example. Neither has Mothman been reserved just for West Virginia; winged humanoids have been seen in Washington state, across the country, all over.

MIBS, Mothman and Mom

May 12, 2008 on 12:37 am | In Books, MIBS | No Comments

I’m very tired, having driven out to the coast 100 miles, and back again today to visit with mom. But i want to get some thoughts down while it’s still fresh.

So mom and I are talking, and she mentions she recently watched a program on TV about UFOs which she found “interesting.” We got to talking about the triangles, which she hadn’t heard of, so I told her what I knew, including my own triangle sighting in Oregon years ago. The conversation about the UFOs in Mexico and the triangles had mom wondering about air space; “it seems dangerous for us (or anyone) to fly in someone else’s airspace.” Then she told me for that reason, among others, she didn’t think the triangles were “ours,” but probably alien. Go, mom!

A bit later I mentioned Mothman, not sure how it came up, and she said “Who, what?!” She had never heard of Mothman! So of course I told her all about that. Which she found fascinating. And I mentioned MIBS — “Men in black?” mom asked; I said “Yep” — and she asked if they were aliens. I said I didn’t know, but that’s certainly one theory.

“What do the Men in black do?” she asks. I told her about the outdated clothing, cars, the odd behavior, etc. and something strange began to happen. The more I started to casually describe MIBS, I began to have that “they’re listening” feeling. That “they’re here….!” feeling, that I’ve had (along with others, who confirmed the presence of non-human intelligences) at times when discussing UFOs. It was very odd. And when I got to the part where I said:

And an eerie aspect of MIBS is, for example, you go outside at night with the dogs, say, and you’re looking up at the night sky, and you see a UFO. And you decide you’re not going to tell anyone about it, you keep the sighting to yourself. You haven’t told anyone, you go off to bed. The next day or soon after, a MIB or two arrive at your door, asking you about your UFO sighting.

I got the weirdest, yet familiar, sensation in my solar plexus, that same kind of feeling I’ve had before with “them” (whoever the hell “they” are) — a combination of a warning and a confirmation “they” are tuned in. Tuned in and listening with great interest.

(I didn’t mention that to mom; enough is enough after all.)

So I promised mom I’d e-mail her some Mothman links, and I’ll send her a book or two as well. Let’s hope it doesn’t scare her, although I doubt it, she’s very tough in many ways, and an avid reader. She did tell me that the only book she read that really scared her, living by herself at the time, was Stephen King’s Tommyknockers, which surprised me, because that’s the one book of King’s that really made me uncomfortable as well. Hmmm….

Mothman: A Synchronicity Trigger?

May 10, 2008 on 2:18 am | In Uncategorized | No Comments

One characteristic of Mothman seems to be about synchronicities. Doe Mothman trigger synchronicities; is Mothman a catalyst for synchronisitic experiences? It appears so, in my short time with things Mothman I’ve experienced many synchronicities. Andrew Colvin discusses this a lot in his book The Mothman’s Photographer II. And synchronicty of course is a given in paranormal/Fortean phenomena. (including UFOs; which I always include in the former categories.)

I Can’t Believe I Forgot

May 4, 2008 on 1:26 am | In forums, psy ops/mind control | 2 Comments

I can’t believe I completely forgot about the following Mothman connection when I started this blog.

A few years ago, I was moderator of several Yahoo groups. This was before blogging took off. I was either moderator of, or co-moderator of, various Yahoo groups, almost all of them having to do with UFOs, the paranormal, etc. Some of these groups are still going, even though I’ve pretty much forgotten all about them. I rarely check in with them or post. (I’ve set up some automatic postings via my blogs; whenever I post on my blog (s) it goes to the Yahoo group.) I have no idea what’s going on with those groups; some of them have other moderators, but there doesn’t seem to be much discussin going on. The exception is FPA or Fortean Phenomena Again, which was created by “Patouchlie Troll” (she’s NOT a troll in that sense of the word) or “PT” as she’s known. That one is still going pretty well, and I, along with several others, co-moderate although I haven’t been over there either in a long time.

Well, a few years ago, I received an e-mail from someone who had started a Mothman group on Yahoo. The group was small and nothing was happening. He wanted to turn it over to someone who would keep it going, and he thought of me.

What was interesting was that I didn’t know this person. I didn’t recognize his name from any of the groups. Yet he emailed me for some reason.

His group — I wish to hell I could remember! — was called something like The Dark Side of Mothman. I don’t think that was it exactly, but the gist of it was, a dark take on it all, including the psy ops mind control aspect. The approach was on the clinical/technical side; electronics and spy machines and frequencies and things. . .(In fact, I just checked and saw that the category the group is in is in the technical category! Guess I never noticed that before.)

I didn’t know anything about Mothman at the time, except from reading Keel’s books, but I was interested. So I said “sure” and took it over. I joked at the time that “Somehow I feel as if I’m an experiment in some one’s mind control game” and the whole thing struck me as odd. I renamed the group to MIBS and Mothman.

The group is still up there on Yahoo, but very little is happening. Just automatic posts from myself and the co-moderator “cryptid hunter.”

Dream Fragment: Warning About a Warning

May 2, 2008 on 2:48 pm | In dreams | No Comments

For some, like author Andrew Colvin, (Mothman’s Photographer, etc.) much of his Mothman encounters seem to happen with art and images. For myself, it seems to be dreams. Not that I’m a mothman expert or witness, etc.

It’s not surprising that dreams would be a way Mothman messages/meetings/encounters would happen; I’ve always had a vivid and active dream life, considering dreams to be important and helpful.

I haven’t been thinking or reading anything about Mothman the past few days; but last night I had a dream where a group of us at work were looking through a book about Mothman. All the people there (except for myself) were unfamiliar with Mothman. Some may have heard about, or seen the movie, but that was about it as far as being “Mothman literate.”

We’re all finding this book interesting, and we come across a passage about a soon to happen disaster in our area. Something weather related. And everyone took the warning very seriously. We had no reason to doubt the warning.

We were all very concerned, but not worried. I should change that to scared — we weren’t scared. The warning came with the message that there was the potential to avert this disaster; and/or, that if it did happen, it would still be okay. I know that doesn’t make sense but dreams have their own logic.

Walking away from the book, and having just read about something bad to happen in our area, oddly enough didn’t make us feel scared, though we were lost in our thoughts and very concerned. In fact, we were grateful for the warning about the warning. . .

And this is strange: even though there was a “warning about the warning” and some kind of chance to at least try to stop it, or lessen the disaster, we seemed to be almost in a trance; choosing not to bother and preferring to let it happen. It wasn’t merely a case of apathy however. It was a choice. (Again, with the dream logic!)

This is similar to another dream I had about weather and Mothman. Even in the midst of disasters and chaos, there’s some kind of calm.

“Drawn To The Light”

May 1, 2008 on 1:05 am | In Uncategorized | No Comments

My husband “George” suggested a title for a Mothman blog: “drawn to the light.” Now he tells me!

Although, that assumes that Mothman is an entity of light, and not ominous, as many believe.
